I had the most remarkable experience that stretched my limit physically and mentally when I as a stage vice-director was in charge of a play the students in my grade would play. We performed plays as a present for the graduating students from our high school. I tried to grasp the situation of the progress of every group, including the carpenters’ tool, the stage lightning, the clothing and the stage makeup to make the casts and the stage effective. I discussed with the headpersons of each group for adjusting balance of every effect on the stage.
At the rehearsal, we found short preparation. The director and I felt really disappointed with the headpersons of each group because we asked them many times to accomplish everything until the rehearsal. At that time our stamina almost reached at the limit. Everyone felt irritated and upset about the result of the rehearsal. I took three measures to lead the better end.
First, although the director and I got angry at the headpersons, we tried to calm down and to convey each problem clearly to each of them. Then, we worked together to find the resolution. We were in a hard time but we tried to remember to thank them for their jobs.
Second, I worked harder than everyone because I was the leader of the play. I did everything that I could do for the play. Then, many people helped more than before.
Finally, the director and I addressed others that we wanted to make the play perfect, which was the last time to perform for graduating students. Everybody cooperated and our play succeeded.
Although it was difficult for me to control my feelings especially anger and tiredness, I am sure that I could stretch my limit physically and mentally though the experience.
Hi Yoshika,
ReplyDeleteThanks for your nicely stated entry. I wish to comment on two of your points. The first involves you having to calm down and speak clearly to others. Controlling our emotions is extremely important in any leadership situation.
The other point is about your third point and how you needed to share your vision in order to get others to also share in the vision. This too is so important.
Good thoughts, and thanks for sharing.
